I took 3 years of Spanish in high school with mild enthusiasm until my family hosted an exchange student from Ecuador when I was a junior. Maria and I were both 17, and we became best friends, and that summer, I traveled to Ecuador to spend 3 weeks with her family. It was the first time I had been outside the US, and was an incredibly exciting and memorable experience.
I realized how much Spanish I didn't know, but also how much fun it was to use and improve my Spanish, and how amazing it is to travel, meet new people, and use another language to connect with them! After returning from Ecuador, I was determined to continue studying languages and traveling. I chose foreign language education to further my own goals and to encourage others in similar pursuits, and I can't imagine spending my days any other way! I love seeing my students' language progress and sharing my passion for language learning and travel with them!
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, with a minor in French from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I have K-12 Teaching Certifications in both Spanish and French.
