Ecuador 2005
After hosting Maria, an Ecuadorian exchange student for a year, I returned to Ecuador to spend 3 weeks with Maria and her family. As a junior in high school, I was awed by the differences between our countries and the fact that my limited knowledge of Spanish could allow me to experience another country on such a deep and personal level.
My trip to Ecuador changed my life more than any of my other travels have. It truly showed me how language can connect people who seem to be completely different on the surface. I returned from this trip eager to continue my own language learning process and determined to share my experiences with others as a foreign language teacher.
